The Maintcore is a simple beast, with a simple directive: stand there, keep your shield up, and don't ever take it down. Unfortunately, all known Maintcore models to date are incapable of standing still or keeping their shield up all the time, which in the year they were built, is considered a pretty major flaw by the AI community. It's unknown why the Corp continued to pour money into this model, given that it seems so poor at its basic funciton. I know, of course.
Beta Lore (unlocked by killing Beta variants)
While it was originally intended as a mobile roadblock, the Maintcore line's crippling, persistent AI inconsistencies precluded it from any standard commercial use. Instead, its developers invested more into the Unit's hull and shield potential, eventually creating models that could extend a force barrier to other nearby Units. This was the goal all along - after all, it's hard to see how the original Maintcore line could have been of any use to anybody.
